Saturday: 20 Questions With Sister Spice

Sister Spice

Before I say anything else, we here at HerbonHerbs want to give a big shout out to our readers because this week, we reached over 10,000 views!  Woo hoo!  We feel like this is a huge milestone in our blogging journey.  We hope to keep it up!

We’ve been taking some time here at HerbonHerbs to get to know one another a little bit. On Monday, Mrs. Herb posted 20 questions (with her answers) to help you, our reader, get to know her a little bit more. Now, it’s my turn, and you will soon see posts featuring some of our favorite bloggers and THEIR answers to the same questions. Fun, right? We thought so. Therefore, without further ado, here’s 20 questions with Sister Spice!

-Tell us about your blog and why it’s great

I think our blog is great because it’s perfect for the working woman/man; our recipes are usually simple and fast, and even though some are healthier than others, we try to be practical and real here, people!

-What is your favorite food/recipe? Least favorite?

My favorite food is the chicken nachos from Salsas in Asheville, North Carolina…my favorite recipe is my lasagna! My least favorite food is anything with nuts, especially water chestnuts: BLECK! The thought of them makes me sick!

-What is the first recipe you learned how to fix?

I might’ve helped my Mama make cookies and such growing up, but the first recipe I ever fixed on my own is my mom’s chicken casserole. It’s really simple and uses canned chicken, and to this day it is my husband’s FAVORITE chicken casserole!

As a side note, some of my fondest memories are of making lemonade with my Nana 🙂

-Who taught you how to cook?

My Mama!

-What food/recipe still seems daunting to you?

Scallops! I love scallops but have never purchased them or tried to fix them…it scares me!

-What is your spouse’s/family’s favorite meal that you cook?

My lasagna and spaghetti, for sure. Oh and chocolate chip pie.

-Tell us about a kitchen disaster or recipe mishap

So, it was my first Mother’s Day as a married woman, and I was hosting both my and my husband’s family for Mother’s Day lunch. I was all fancy and had fixed two large spinach, cheese, and bacon quiches…we waited on them to finish cooking forever, but it didn’t matter, because when I went to get one out of the oven, I dropped it on the open oven door and a huge eggy mess ensued. It was so embarrassing and shameful, and I am STILL cleaning it out from the cracks and crevices of the oven.

-Who is your favorite celebrity chef?

Definitely Giada. I love Italian food. And she’s dreamy!  I also love Paula Deen and her sons.  They’re just fun and so charismatic.

-Who is your favorite food blogger?

Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond.

-What is your day job?

English teacher and coach!

-If you could cook/bake all day instead of your day job, would you?

I’m not sure…if someone else cleaned up the mess, then yes!

-What is your favorite restaurant?

I can’t narrow it down to one so I have three.  Salsas in Asheville, North Carolina; Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Cheeburger Cheeburger in Sanibel Island, Florida.

-If you were going to open up a restaurant or bakery, what kind of place would it be? What would you call it?

I would love to have a cafe with fresh pastries, coffees, and soups. I would call it Edna Mae’s Cafe, after my Nana.

-What is your favorite part about food blogging? Least favorite?

Taking pictures while I am preparing food is so annoying. I just want to make my mess and fix my food and eat it!

-What is something (food or blog related) that you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t yet?

Master Potato Soup…I tend to mess that one up a lot for some reason.

-White chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate?

White chocolate!

-Comfort food of choice?

Pizza! Especially if it is from Scratch Brick Oven in Johnson City, Tennessee!

-Sweet or savory?

-What is your favorite herb?

Hmmm I am the “sweet” and you are the “savory”. Wonder what that means?

    Oh, Nana’s lemonade!
