20 Questions with Mrs. Herb

Mrs. Herb

Today we’re going to play a little game known as 20 questions! I’m sure you’re familiar with it. I thought this would be a fun way to get to know each other better! To be honest, I totally stole this idea from one of my favorite personal finance blogs, 1500 Days and their 10 Questions posts with other personal finance bloggers. I thought it would be fun to do this will fellow food bloggers! So I will start!

20 Questions with Mrs. Herb

-Tell us about your blog and why itโ€™s great

My blog is great because I never really thought I would be a blogger! Mr. Herb and I had kicked the idea around for a while, but I never seriously thought it would happen. Then one day last year (July 25th), he planned to help me make dinner, and showed up with his camera. He said, let’s just try it! And here we are! My blog is also great because I feel like it’s authentically us. We don’t try to be like anyone else, we just share recipes that we would normally make anyway, and many times recipes that have been in the Herb family for years!

-What is your favorite food/recipe? Least favorite?

Favorite: Beef tenderloin fixed by my dad. I need to learn to make it and share!

Least favorite: I HATE onions. Seriously. I LOATHE them. That’s why you will rarely find recipes on here that have onions. I will use onion powder to substitute!

-What is the first recipe you learned how to fix?

One of my earliest memories with food is making chocolate chip cookies with my mom. She would let me add things and help stir the dough. I was still small enough that I had to sit on my knees in the chair at the kitchen bar in order to do this. That’s one of my earliest memories of “cooking”.

-Who taught you how to cook?

Mainly my mom and dad – dad actually likes to cook more than my mom. But also my best friend Stephenie showed me how simple it is to make some good food. She has a knack for just throwing some things together and making a great meal. I remember making great spaghetti with her in high school and also coconut Thai chicken with her in college!

-What food/recipe still seems daunting to you?

Seafood! I have baked salmon a few times, but I’ve never fixed shrimp or scallops or anything like that! We didn’t eat a lot of seafood in our house growing up. I want to fix this, though, and learn how to make some good seafood!

-What is your spouse’s/family’s favorite meal that you cook?

Mr. Herb loves our guacamole. My family seems to appreciate my desserts most – especially my chocolate pie!

-Tell us about a kitchen disaster or recipe mishap

The first meal that Mr. Herb and I made together in our early days of dating was spaghetti. I had a pot of water with the noodles and a large skillet with some olive oil to make the sauce on the stovetop. I had chopped up the garlic and I told Mr. Herb to add the garlic to the skillet. Instead, he added it to the noodles! He was SO embarrassed, but the recipe turned out okay anyway! We look back on that memory fondly ๐Ÿ™‚

-Who is your favorite celebrity chef?

Giada!!! Although I also love Rachael Rayย and her 30 minute meals!

-Who is your favorite food blogger?

I would have to say Lindsay at Pinch of Yum. Her blog has been very inspirational and helpful to me as I’ve tried to get HerbOnHerbs off the ground. Also, she is a Christian and is currently using the income from her blog to allow her and her husband to minister at an orphanage in the Phillipines!

-What is your day job?

I am a tax accountant! Couldn’t get much farther from a chef, eh??

-If you could cook/bake all day instead of your day job, would you?

Probably! Although I don’t think I’d be very good at working in a restaurant, only my personal kitchen!

-What is your favorite restaurant?

The Peppermill in Abingdon, Virginia!

-If you were going to open up a restaurant or bakery, what kind of place would it be?ย  What would you call it?

It would probably be a bakery or chocolate shop of some kind! No idea what to call it….

-If you had your own cooking show, what would you call it?

HerbOnHerbs ๐Ÿ™‚

-What is your favorite part about food blogging? Least favorite?

Probably the actual cooking/baking part. But I also love it when I get feedback from readers and fellow bloggers! My least favorite part is doing anything technical – that’s why I leave that stuff to Mr. Herb!

-What is something (food or blog related) that youโ€™ve always wanted to do, but havenโ€™t yet?

I would like to publish a cookbook! Keep an eye out ๐Ÿ˜‰

-White chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate?

Can’t I have all 3? Okay – probably milk chocolate if I HAD to choose!

-Comfort food of choice?

Macaroni and cheese.

-Sweet or savory?

Mega sweet tooth here!

-What is your favorite herb?

Mr. Herb! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But of the plant variety, I’d have to say sweet basil. Yum!

Well, that was fun! I hope you all enjoyed getting to know me a little better. In the coming weeks we will also get Mr. Herb and Sister Spice to answer our 20 questions!

Haha I don’t hate you! I just won’t eat your meals with onions ๐Ÿ˜‰ I can tolerate them if they are finely chopped up in things – such as salsa and spaghetti sauce at least!

  2. LOVE this! Okay, sending you a reply e-mail. ๐Ÿ˜‰
